The other cost of driving into Ukraine
Fuel for this trip comes to about €40.08. A car on foreign plates also needs motor liability cover for Ukraine before it reaches the border — its own Green Card valid in Ukraine, or a Ukrainian policy. We do not price the policy on this page: a manager quotes it for your car and dates.
Every result is an estimate: real consumption depends on the road, the weather, the load and the way you drive. Euro amounts are at the NBU official rate shown above; your bank's rate will differ.
For travellers: at the station
- What the pump says. Petrol is А-95 (95 octane) or premium 95/100; diesel is ДП; autogas (LPG) is Газ. The big chains sell all three.
- Paying. Card payment is the norm: tell the cashier in the shop the pump number and the fuel, and pay by card — or, at OKKO, WOG and UPG, at the pump through the chain's app. The price is in hryvnia; your bank converts at its own rate, not the official one used here.
- Averages, not a station. Every figure on this page is an average over many stations; prices differ from station to station and chain to chain.

Insurance for a car entering Ukraine
Fuel is one cost of the trip; motor liability cover is the other one you cannot skip. A car on foreign plates needs it before it reaches the border — its own Green Card valid in Ukraine, or a Ukrainian policy (Article 7 of Law No. 3720-IX; at the border, Article 9 of Law No. 3720-IX). The Ukrainian online calculator cannot price a foreign-registered car, so a manager does: leave a request and get the insurer's price for your car and dates.

How we calculate, and the sources
- What is shown. The average, lowest and highest retail price per litre (CNG per cubic metre) in Ukraine and in 23 regions, and the number of stations and chains counted.
- Prices. Calculations by AZS24, published under CC BY 4.0 (terms of use). AZS24 collects the chains' prices from their sites and summaries; those prices belong to their sources, so we do not publish individual chains.
- Euros. Hryvnia divided by the official exchange rate the National Bank of Ukraine sets for the day (bank.gov.ua, open data), rounded to the cent. We check the rate at most every 6 hours and print it with its date. If it is unavailable we show hryvnia only — there is no fallback rate.
- How often. Prices are checked at most every 30 minutes (regions every 3 hours) and the page shows the source's own update time. Chains' prices are updated every working day, so at weekends you may see Friday's. If the source does not answer, we show our latest archived snapshot with its date; our daily archive starts on .
- Calculators multiply consumption by the price per litre — the result is an estimate.

Can I pay for fuel by card in Ukraine?
Yes. At the big chains you tell the cashier in the station shop the pump number and the fuel and pay by card; at OKKO, WOG and UPG you can also pay at the pump through the chain's app. Prices are in hryvnia — your bank converts the payment at its own rate, which is not the official rate this page uses. Details, with the chains' own pages, are in our Welcome to Ukraine guide.
Where do these prices and the euro rate come from?
Average, lowest and highest prices are calculated by AZS24 (azs24.com.ua) and published under CC BY 4.0; we fetch them at most every 30 minutes and show the source's own update time. Euro amounts are converted at the official hryvnia rate the National Bank of Ukraine sets, with the rate and its date shown. If the rate is unavailable, we show hryvnia only.
Where can I buy Ukrainian car insurance for a foreign-registered car online?
On TEHET, a Ukrainian insurance intermediary — online, through a manager rather than the calculator. Leave a request with the VIN, the engine size and the date you cross; the manager gets the insurer's price for your car and term, you pay by card, and the electronic policy is emailed to you. It is Ukrainian compulsory motor liability (OSCPV) — what other countries sell as border or frontier insurance — and it covers injury and damage you cause to other people in Ukraine. Terms: 15 days, 21 days, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months, six months or a year. It must be concluded before you reach the Ukrainian border — it is not sold at the crossing — and the manager answers from 07:00 to 22:00 Kyiv time, so write the day before.
